He said with huge emphasis that there are NEVER ANY GUARANTEES, that today is the day that the premium to NAV should be expected to drop and that it was a pleasure to speak with someone who understood trading the NAV premium/discounts of the funds. I don't know for sure but what the hell - the premiums are going to be out at close to night but I sold all my SVRZF and bought CEF (both IRA accounts.) If nothing else, the most recent NAV premiums (if the CEF premium doesn't dive) were 17% for SVRZF and around 8 or 9% for CEF. I hope to get in CEF a lot lower (I got in SVRZF for a slight discount to NAV.)

An interesting thing about VOLUME of SVRZF; I've been asked here about the thinly traded volume of the stock and commented that it is INDEED thinly traded. Well, in point of fact, I sold just a hair over 8000 shares EARLY this am and the volume on the Scottrade and OTC market quotes both show a total volume of 200 shares as of this writing. Therefore I believe that volume figures we get for this stock are meaningless because I had no difficulties whatsoever in selling my shares quickly and at appealing prices.

I'm a bit concerned since this leaves me way under the silver weight I'd prefer to hold (although it will give me a very nice increase in ounces held of both gold and silver,) so I sold my much smaller holding of GTU and - somewhat reluctantly because I don't totally trust it - bought SILV. I'll be waiting for either Sprott or SVRZF to hold an offering, get their ridiculous premiums down to a sensible level then ditch the SILV and perhaps the CEF as well.

This is not a recommendation, just what I personally did.

BradCurmudgeonly Dissemblerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02697815839533435254noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3034901630224544639.post-16686853683046560182011-03-30T13:45:19.860-04:002011-03-30T13:45:19.860-04:00I phoned CEF today and spoke with a secretary who ...I phoned CEF today and spoke with a secretary who didn't understand me or my logic and passed my call to a higher person in the fund's heirarchay. I've been a holder for about 4 years bought at 10.5 and certificated my shares for the the long haul deep storage as an alternative to physical which I have plenty of and prefer.
I don't think I've ever seen the premium drop below 5% at least not for more than a day or so.
I believe these secondaries are good in the long run as it's physical off the market.
One thing you all should do is check out a chart and compare it to slv/gld over several years. it tracks closer to gld than in the middle.
I think that's because it hold a significant cash balance of about 3% that's not invested in metal.
Another thing about cef and phys/pslv is that they are considered passive foreign investment trusts and if held in a taxable account in the US require a special tax form to be filed each year. If you go to the yahoo board search for it and read what a guy named ludvig writes about that.
Phys/PSLV on the other hand only hold about 1% cash so you have more working for you. I really don't know the management costs for each but that would be a good thing to check out.
I did sell my pslv recently due to the high premium. I think they should do a secondary but are afraid to alienate existing shareholders.
Good luck to allWandeehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15050772081798287660noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3034901630224544639.post-32723624528609301612011-03-30T13:27:08.317-04:002011-03-30T13:27:08.317-04:00I thought sure silver would sell off going into th...I thought sure silver would sell off going into the close.

The action of the last 24 hours is very strange to me. I do believe though that some of the biggest payoffs will be through these well-chosen juniors. I think you are smart to put the bulk of your capital in a wealth-preserver/builder ..and play with a smaller amount of money in the riskier plays.

I don't always take that advice for myself though because quite frankly...I don't have that much to invest (sadly) and am trying to 'grow' my money more by the higher-risk/higher-reward strategy. It is not a strategy I necessarily recommend because of the backfire potential here. I'm just trying to be as smart about it as I can ..do the best I can ..and see how it all unfolds. If I lose ..well, the sun will still rise and I will just start over (again). :)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07800567034093544029noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3034901630224544639.post-54745796411345496352011-03-30T13:22:07.573-04:002011-03-30T13:22:07.573-04:00new threadnew threadTurd Fergusonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03393759110641882003noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3034901630224544639.post-1436605946723010142011-03-30T13:21:32.453-04:002011-03-30T13:21:32.453-04:00Ginger...
