I trade the rat...@ Xty, Prize Fighter & Irene:

I trade the ratio with physical metal when I believe it is advantageous, I'm not a paper trader. When I started buying silver last fall ratio was about 48:1. I decided to trade into some gold when the ratio got into the 30s, because I was loaded with silver but had no gold. My average buy-in price for silver is around $31, so to trade into gold with the current ratio of 34:1 it's like buying gold for $1100 an ounce, that's 2009 prices and a heck of a discount. I'm doing this also because I think silver is getting a bit frothy - the chart makes me nervous, it cannot continue to go straight up in my opinion. I look at the long-term gold chart, it is nice and steady with a lot of solid support, silver is going straight up with speculation and I think it could come down sharply at some point in the next several week. The chart looks like a mini-bubble to me. I might be wrong, but I'd rather be wrong and in the money than the alternative.

I'm bullish on both metals but not being a person of means I'm hedging my bets with less volatile gold. I'm planning to buy more silver when there is a bigger dip, and I'm pretty sure there is going to be one, whether it's next week, next month or this summer, I will jump on it, but I'm not buying to hold long term at the current prices. Silver will make its way higher but I don't think it's going to be a straight line up so I'm trying to play it like that.lord kooshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02990996827235679573noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3034901630224544639.post-77061450764263352712011-04-19T22:23:46.323-04:002011-04-19T22:23:46.323-04:00@Xty: reasoning as stated. Just glancing at the GSR chart (notably the weekly) shows it looks like it should bounce a little. That's the only basis I have in saying I agree it could happen.

Also, I don't think a rise in GSR will come from both metals continuing to appreciate. If there is a sustained pullback, silver will fall more than gold. This is what would raise the GSR. Both looked poised to happen. Not saying it will, but the conditions are ripe. How, who, when? No idea.

GSR tells me which metal to buy. My last purchase I bought gold with silver. Not much but more than my usual zero. As the ratio drops I'll buy even more of a gold %. If the ratio does go back up to 50+, all silver buys.

Now trading the GSR, is a different kettle of fish. If you have a reliable and honest source, then go for it. Otherwise, the devil is in the details when dealing with double trades.Prize Fighterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04022348989137464947noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3034901630224544639.post-9457384474713880012011-04-19T21:34:33.333-04:002011-04-19T21:34:33.333-04:00They believe that silver will fall faster than gol...They believe that silver will fall faster than gold and change the ratio back to were it was in the 40/50's.
