I'll slowly s...To all who responded: Thank you. I'll slowly start looking through the resources. A little about me and my goals. I'm a Chicago High School teacher that never worried as long as I paid into my pension, so I never bothered saving much like any consumer hog. Since the 2008 meltdown, like others, it's motivated me to understand what's going on. Finally, after reading an article about inflation and gold in January 2009, it all clicked and I realized I better start saving something tangible. I started buying silver and gold coins slowly. Since then Illinois has raised their income taxes, my assessment on my house is higher even though I've an underwater mortgage, and now the Illinois politicians want start raiding our pensions. Not simply pay more into the pension which is decent, but the politicians are actively looking and probing at ways to get at the money. This has been building for years with the school board and Illinois doing some illegal stuff. So, I'm scared and want to prepare and try to start looking at options to increase my wealth a bit. I'm looking at low to medium risk investments that will make a return faster than silver (my favorite) is expected to rise. In my non-professional opinion and everything I've read in the last two years, it makes perfect sense that silver will touch $100 in the next 2-3 years assuming our currency doesn't get stressed and the dollar index doesn't tank into the 60s or lower before then. I also believe in the strong possibility of a hyperinflationary episode or at least a high inflation period along with price controls that end up with shortages. Also, with the real possibility that I could at anytime be fired because the education insanity the media and the politicians put us through, I want to last at least a year without any income or food so I have time to adapt to my circumstances. I've enough food for a year and probably now could last 6 months or more without any paper dollars to pay bills without cutting back much. So, I want to learn to multiply a small investment and build up over time. I did listen to Dines when he was announcing the coming mania in rare earths before it happened. I wish I had really understood what was going to happen and knew what to do. So, I figure that once in a lifetime opportunity is gone. But I started buying silver at $14. I didn't panic during the Sunday night massacre even though I just purchased $300 of silver Morgans at $48. I just waited and bought another $1000 when silver was at 35.61. I can be patient if I know what's going on. I'm not looking to be super wealthy but to have enough to live on when I retire without the bankers and politicians taking my wealth away from me. I'm 44 and until 2008 I knew next to nothing about economics. Since watching the Peter Schiff videos, reading mises.org, goldsilver.com, Jim's mineset, King World News, and now this site, for the very first time I'm actually thinking of playing with this market. I'm willing to take my lumps if I can learn from them and not repeat them. So, there we are. Thanx. We don't here, so I add a little bleach for long term storage. My plan is to basically have the drinking and cooking water for short term neccessities such as power outtages and the first couple weeks of SHTF scenario. Where we live, we have abundant access to water, which would just have to be filtered and boiled. Also have alot of wood since we live on the edge of a national forest.

The only thing we don't have a lot of where I live is jobs which is how I found this site trying to learn to trade to make some money, so I can buy physical silver, more rations, more guns, more ammo..etc. I am very appreciated of everyone's remarks on trading and extremely grateful for Turd and this blog!Davehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09772135067816270643noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3034901630224544639.post-3260895932752210822011-05-23T09:31:24.071-04:002011-05-23T09:31:24.071-04:00Ginger and Dave,
You're better off using empt...Ginger and Dave,

You're better off using empty soda bottles. It is a different, more durable kind of plastic than milk jugs, and tends to hold less bacteria. Also, if the bottle is very, very clean you don't need the bleach, but nonetheless a couple of drops in a 2 liter bottle doesn't hurt either the bottle or you. As for a Berkey, it will filter out the chlorine and bacteria quite well - well enough that one could literally pour lake water into the upper chamber and get sterile water out of the bottom - though I'd recommend a pre-filter (maybe old t-shirts or coffee filters) to keep sediment and bigger pieces of junk and creatures out of (or off of) the Berkey filter and thereby extend its life. BTW, a good savings plan is to have extra Berkeys - at $50 each, you're ensuring that you have 3,000 gallons of clean drinking water.Paul Whttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09515651189295260840noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3034901630224544639.post-7293976971360110522011-05-23T09:29:19.589-04:002011-05-23T09:29:19.589-04:00LOL, Ginger
